Candles from coconuts - Heritage festival - June 2009
Organised by History and Social Action Publications.
Price's Candles of Battersea were an innovative local company who used industrial chemistry in the 1840s to develop inexpensive, good quality candles.
By 1900 they were the world's largest candle manufacturer with factories in many other countries.
Still a brand name today, their factory building in Battersea is now used for housing. Jon Newman, who was the archivist and historian for Price's in the 1990s, will give an illustrated talk on the history of this extraordinary local enterprise and launch his book.
