When Andrew Clayton took up post at St Matthew’s Church in Walsall he knew he wanted to make more use of the church as a venue for live music. Two years on, he’s working with artists in every discipline from singer-songwriters to the national flute orchestra to bring a packed 2024 season.
In April alone, we have Sonare bringing their beautiful four-part vocal talent on Saturday 20th (4pm, £5) and Walsall Rotary Club fundraising on Saturday 27th (7pm, £10) with MUHA band who are Ukrainian folk artists. In May the Community Choir from the church will be giving a concert with a varied programme of feel good and singalong items, led by Andrew from the piano.
Then in June Walsall Symphony Orchestra will give a concert. Both concerts are in the diary online, and are only £5 on the door or in advance. Finally, before the summer holidays arrive local songstress and growing star Jessie Desai will be headlining on her first full tour, with support. She has strong roots in the town and we’re looking forward to hearing more of her.
