Crown Wharf Walsall - Carpark changes - watch out!

Bookmark and Share

Please note the following changes introduced to the Crown Wharf Car Park in Walsall.  Please don’t get caught out, and please feel free to pass this information on.

·         As of today the entrance barrier to Crown Wharf car park has been removed.  Your arrival and departure will be monitored by an Automatic Number Plate Reader (ANPR).

·         You will be required to purchase your parking ticket when you arrive by entering your vehicle registration number into the ticket machine.   You then pay for the amount of time you plan to remain on the carpark

·         Failure to purchase a ticket, inputting an incorrect car registration number or going over the time you have paid for, will result in you receiving a parking fine; your address will be retrieved via the ANPR system.

·         Please also note that the first hour is no longer free.

I think both private car parks and Walsall council are taking backward steps in the attempt to attract and keep customers into their shops by their petty mindedness re car parking.Walsall council want to squeeze every last penny out of motorists to regain shortfalls from the purse mainly caused through their mismanagement in other areas...then they wonder why motorists won't come into the town when they introduce more and more charges. Its a joke. report abuse...

Phil Lloyd My daughter has just been caught by the crown car park con of no barrier she has used the car park many times before and just thought that the barrier being up it was broken. The fine of £50 if not paid in a few days goes to £110 there should be a law passed that the amount to be legally charged should not exceed a daily rate. I appealed to Parkingeye who enforce the fine they did not want to know what a surprise!. People do not realise that eventually all customers will visit a shopping Mall with free parking and all of our towns will be shut never to return. report abuse...

Hi, We have just been caught out by this. After doing some research online it appears that Parking Eye cant enforce the 'fine' for numerous reasons. Here are a few links: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=2294335 and http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/parking-fines/ Our plan is to just completely ignore them. Hi all , we have just been caught out by the small minded people at Walsall Council & ParkingEye, having spent a small futune on goods at the Crown Wharf Shopping Centre, (supporting business in my local area) i am amazed that some one some where thinks this is a good idea to encourage growth within the retail industry in Walsall , schemes such as this will turn people away to shop and spend there money else where .After all we are only the customer. i will be writing to the retail outlets to explane why we will not be returning to this shopping Centre . report abuse...

Parked in this shopping centre on the 14th September. I was helping out my disabled 84 tear old father shop. He has mobility difficulties and is deaf.Ww parked in a disabled bay and displayed his blue badge. I checked the payment details - nothing. YES you guessed we got a ticket !! I appealled and they have now CHANGED the reason for the charge and asked us to prove our situation... clearly not worth engaging with an organisation who clearly discriminates against those who have a disability report abuse...

I've also received a charge notice from ParkingEye on the Crown Wharf for £50. What is frustrating is that I DID pay and display and I DID enter my registration number correctly, of course by the time you receive the notice through the post you have probably already thrown away the ticket and your proof of payment. This is clearly a scam and in the lomg term will hurt business at the shopping park and Walsall town centre as people will stay away if the are being ripped off. The only reason I'm going to pay is because the car is company owned, if it was mine I would ignore the charge as I believe they have no legal standing. report abuse...

Warning!!!!! This is a total scam!!!! Do not pay!!! I've also received a charge notice from ParkingEye on the Crown Wharf for £50. What is frustrating is that I DID pay and display and I entered my reg correctly. They sent the invoice 2 weeks after I parked there win only 2 days left to pay. Because of these crooks I shall never shop on this complex again!!! Walsall council you are a joke to allow this to be happening!! Angry Walsall shopaholic report abuse...

Hi, i to have been caught out in that car park. It's been months since i'd parked there so i didn't realise that you had to pay on Sundays! I sent them a letter explaining that i was unaware of these new rules and that i was only dropping my daughter into work (not actually shopping)! They replied saying that my appeal was unsuccesful as they needed more evidence, such as a proof of purchase (which i hadn't)!!!!! I replied, this time by email, asking if they could explain the relevence of purchases, to which they replied that my appeal was again unsuccessful!! I'm really worried about this as i dont want to be taken to court but i cant afford such a high charge either!!!! report abuse...

CROWN WHARF UNFAIR TREATMENT. My husband daughter and I now living overseas visit crown wharf once a year to Shop when we visit family. On the 16th September 2011, we wanted to shop at Asda Living so approached the car park to find the barrier up and no ticket machine and no sign. We thought that perhaps there was now free parking as last year we collected a ticket and paid when we left. We shopped for 44 mins and left. Last week we received a parking fee for 80 POUNDS and 30 POUNDS ADMIN from Parking Eye. I have appealed twice and they refused. To top that, our car rental company ALAMO have tacked 32 POUND onto our credit card for their admin fee in submitting opur address to PARKING EYE. THATS 142 in total pounds for 44 mins parking. I wrote to the manager of Crown Wharf and the email said the address I got from website was unknown. Any help from readers would be welcome. What about next year if we don't pay when we want to rent a car again? report abuse...

Hello all, seems I'm joining you all on the parking fines, I just had my letter, I displayed my BLUE BADGE and I bought my ticket, they say I entered at 11:46 and departed at 13:39. funny that I breached parking regulations, I still have my ticket I purchased at 11:50 Til 13:50, I have a blue badge because I have problems walking and cant walk very fast,so I think I did quite well to find a parking space, get out of the car and read parking charges in 4 minutes, surely they cant be fining me for the 4 minutes it took me to buy the ticket. I am going to appeal.does anyone know how long they take to decide after I have sent the email to appeal (plus photocopy of purchased ticket). grrrrrrrrrr report abuse...

Reference: Parking charge for 30/12/11 I am writing to appeal against the parking charge notice I have recieved today 11/01/12. On entering the Crown Wharf Carpark on the 30th December 2012 there was a large signage advising there was free carparking over various days, including this day (30/12/11), I parked up and made my way to the pay and display machine to double check, I tried inserting several pound coins but they kept exiting the machine, I also tried keying in my registration but it did not accept, a customer stopped by me and said it's free parking today. Taking into account the signage, the machine not accepting money and a passing customer also advising it was free carparking I carried on with my visit, my 18 year old daughter was with me who also viewed the signage and witnessed the machine and the passing customer. Can you please reply at your earliest convienience. report abuse...

can anybody out there help me shopping at the crown wharf on 23rd december 2011 we saw a sign free parking for xmas week can anybody confirm if this is correct report abuse...
Peter F 21 January 2012
Michelle H and Bill S, I can confirm there were signs advertising Christmas Week free parking. I too visited on the 30th Dec 11 when the signs were still there advertising free parking for Christmas week. I too received a fine for entering the car park on the 30/12/11 and driving around for 30 mins without being able to find a space because it was so crowded. I gave up and drove off but they still sent me an £80 fine for not paying for 30 mins of parking that i never used cos there weren't any spaces !!!!! I have no intention of paying any fine. Anyone affected by this look on line for advice (martins money tip is the best site) they have to take you to court and prove that you caused them a material loss which they can reclaim, therefore i wait with great pleasure them taking me to court for 60p, combined with the mittigation of the signs saying free parking, plus no spaces. Hmmmmm lets see that pan out in court then. Private parking companies are just a bunch of cowboys report abuse...

I have just recieved a parking fine for £50.00, this was for taking 5min over the time on my ticket to get off the car park. (I was on my mobile for a couple of mins in the staitionary car). I still have the parking ticket i purchased but realised i had put the wrong registration in - one letter wrong!. I was going to appeal, however after reading posts on the Martin Lewis web site, it would seem this would be pointless. Although it is something i would not normally do, i am going to ignore this and any further demands, as i am really angry that i recieved a demand for £50 in the first place. I will NEVER be returning to this car park again, and will take my custom to Bilston where all parking is free. Kim report abuse...

Just to update everyone, i didn't pay and just ignored their threatening letters, I was quite looking forward to them taking me to court... but guess what !! ....just like explained on the Martin Lewis Web site they just stopped sending me threatening letters and gave up. After threatening Balifs and all sorts they just gave up. Seems to me its just a SCAM they will send you 2 or 3 letters and if you ignore them they give up. To the retailers at Crown Wharf, Due to this incredibly annoying experience i will NEVER PARK THERE AGAIN NOR WILL I SHOP AT THE WHARF please take note and re think your policy you are driving people away by using these COWBOYS report abuse...

Like many others it seems I have been caught spending 8 more minutes than I should have done parking in this car park. I unfortunately did not come here first and have just paid the £50. I am even more furious than I was before and even more determined NEVER TO USE THIS or any other Parking Eye car park ever again. Unfortunately this will have a detrimental effect on the local economy for which I regret. Is someone listening in the council or are we going to simply roll over to the Capitalist private enterprise Big Brother con men behind Parking Eye. I hope they can sleep at night. report abuse...

my elderly parents have been issued with a fine a couple of days after the pay and display was introduced. they have been to the wharf retail park many times before and had no idea that it had changed. now they face a £50 bill out of their pension that they can ill afford. as a result we will be advising all our family and friends and everyone else we ever meet not to shop in walsall again. this will cost your town alot more than the £50 you have sickeningly stolen from their pension. report abuse...
