Enjoy astonishingly good pizza in a wonderfully relaxed environment at this popular family friendly Italian restaurant and pizzeria in Teddington - you won't find better value anywhere in Richmond upon Thames.
There’s Italian. And there’s Canta Napoli Italian.
And with the translation for Canta Napoli meaning ‘Napoli Sings’ husband and wife team Alfonso and Julia have certainly upped the tempo for their outstanding Italian restaurant and pizzeria in Teddington.
Not only do they make the best pizza ever, their pasta is rated by native Italians as better than can be found at home. “If you miss Italy this is the right place to eat” says Maurizio of Genoa!
The restaurant is wonderfully relaxed, its contemporary style decor, made cosy with the flames and aromas of a traditional open pizza oven. In true Italian style, it is a place where all the family are made welcome - no wonder people from all over Richmond upon Thames flock here.
The service is friendly and efficient, the music unobtrusive, and the prices are incredibly good value. Often a bottle of their superb quality Neapolitan house wine is already sitting at the centre of the table, welcoming you to try. Genius!
Every ingredient used, is sourced and arrives fresh each week, from Naples – Alfonso’s homeland. And it is this that sets Canta Napoli apart from your usual high street Italian restaurant chains. Each flavour exudes freshness.
‘Best pizza this side of Naples’ said one London reviewer who is also a native from Naples – the spiritual home of pizza in Italy. ‘The pasta is identifiably fresh and the sauces delicious’ wrote another.
We asked Julia to reveal the secrets to their seriously good Italian cuisine.
Serious Food Secrets
“It is the freshness and quality of ingredients used. And the authentic culinary secrets that are close to the heart of the Naples region. For example, our pizza bases are incredibly light. The quality of flour is important. But, so is the deft hand and intuition of the dough maker who will use his own regional technique that will have spanned generations. It’s a secret that can’t be explained – only tasted in the end result!”
Food is made for sharing at Canta Napoli in Teddington. You can order a half meter or meter pizza and split the toppings. What will strike you is the exquisiteness of each flavour.
“Mozzarella di Bufala, fior di latte is delivered fresh to the restaurant twice, each week.” explains Julia “It has a natural creaminess and texture that you can’t compare to the low moisture, shredded mozzarella most commonly used on pizza. Equally our tomato sauce base has a fullness of flavour signature only to the quality of tomatoes grown in Naples.”
Each of the pizza toppings are unique to the recipes of Naples and will satisfy meat eaters and vegetarians alike. Pizza Funghi Porcini with Wild Porcini Mushroom exudes freshness. For the more fiery palate try the Pizza Forte - Spicy Spianata Calabrese Sausage with fresh chillies.
If pizza doesn’t tempt you don’t despair. The most discerning of palates are satisfied with the freshly made pasta – the lobster linguine is divine - or the fresh fish or meat a la carte.
“A haven for connoisseurs of Italian cuisine” says Kevo. There’s only one way to find out, try it for your self! Open from 11.30am to 10.30pm daily. Pizza’s can be ordered to take out too.
