I called to see you today, but you weren't there.

I wanted to a chat over a cup of tea.

A laugh over old times.

I called to see you today, but you weren't there.

I had some news, good for a change, would have been nice to share with you.

You would have been so pleased for me.

I called to see you today, but you weren't there.

I wanted to cry on your shoulder, ask your advice, have you put your arms around me and tell me its all right.

I called to see you today, but you weren't there.

I chatted to your neighbours, strangers walking by. Each smile at me, but it was you I wanted, your smile, your chat.

I called to see you today, but you weren't there.

As I sat and waited a nurse stopped by.

She told me what kind of day you were having, the kind of night you'd had.

She talked about a stranger, it's wasn't you she talked about.

I called to see you today, but you weren't there.

In stead was this person I didn't know, who didn't know me.

I called to see you today, but you weren't there.

This illness called Alzheimer was there, but you weren't there, not the loving, funny, strong mother I knew.

When I called to see you today, I was told its a good day, but you weren't there, not the person I know and love, behind the grey /blue eyes was an emptiness , you weren't there.

I called to see you today, but you weren't there.

Oh how I miss you.

Please take a minute to think about the people who help care for people with Alzheimer's and dementia, both are very cruel illnesses, they take away the people we love and leave a shell. Please take a minute today for the people who are not there anymore.
