The Burned Children’s Club is a registered charity. A burn injury is one of the most traumatic injuries a body can suffer. It affects the child both physically and emotionally. After a burn injury a child has to try and come to terms with their altered body image and try to adjust to every day life.
Mixing with other children who have suffered in a similar way, will help them come to terms with their injury. They are able to play, interact and talk freely during their time together. Not at anytime are they under pressure.
The volunteers of the club are all checked by the Police (CRB), many are from the Emergency Services, such as Doctors, Nurses, Firefighters and trusted members of the public. Our volunteers are always on hand to help and assist in the children’s needs or even just to talk.
Parents and siblings are not left out, we often have ‘Family Weekends’, BBQs and days out where you can talk to other families who are in the same situation as yourselves or chat to our volunteers. Help and advice is always at hand, just give us a call or look at our website.
Once a year children in the 8-16 year range have the opportunity to come to Burn Camp, this is very busy and interactive week away. They get the chance to try out many activities such as canoeing, cycling, sailing and much more. Evenings are very social with games, play and discos, where all ages are able to mix and enjoy being together. All this again under the guidance of our volunteers.
Donations
All our events and activities are funded purely by charitable donations, fund raising by club volunteers and support from general public.
All children taking part in any of our activities or events do so free of charge.
