ISLE OF MAN JUNIOR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OPENS ITS PURSE TO ST JOHN AMBULANCE

The Isle of Man Junior Chamber of Commerce adds £250 to the refurbishment of
St John Ambulance recreational room

DOUGLAS, ISLE OF MAN, 12 September 2008 - The Isle of Man Junior Chamber of
Commerce (IOMJCC) has opened its pockets and donated £250 towards the
refurbishment of the St John Ambulance recreational room.

"We train the badgers and the cadets at the headquarters so the recreational
room is essentially a place for them to chill out after training," said
Helen Okell, president of IOMJCC and member of St John Ambulance, one of the
UK's leading first aid charities. "We like to make it feel like a reward for
their hard work so it is important to kit it out with equipment that they
can have fun with."

The badgers and the cadets are programmes for young people that aim to teach
important life skills. Young people can join the badgers from the age of
five to 10; they then progress to the cadets until the age of 18. Among
other things, members take part in active and adventurous activities and
learn important first aid skills. These programmes give young people the
chance to make new friends, have fun and demonstrate commitment and
responsibility to their community.

With such a wide range of ages using the room, it is fair to say that
selecting equipment can be a bit tricky. "Obviously we need equipment that
is suitable for everyone," said Helen Okell. St John Ambulance hope to put
the funds towards a new table tennis kit but would also like to buy a new
TV, sofas and an Xbox.

Helen Okell said: "As a not for profit organisation, the IOMJCC often makes
donations to Manx charities such as Manx Children in Need, Phill Drowley and
Douglas Twinning Committee. It's a pleasure to be able to support these
charities and we are pleased to put our support behind St John Ambulance."

St John Ambulance headquarters in Douglas has recently undergone extensive
building work to transform their training rooms. The refurbishment of the
recreational room will complete the transformation.
