The family run butchers will mark the occasion by paying homage to our counterparts in America, who celebrate the original Independence Day on the same date.

Simon Badley, operations director, said: “We will have sticky ribs, plenty of quarter pounder beef burgers and veal, wild boar and ostrich - all a delicacy in America.

We will also be offering Tennessee Chilli glazes and BBQ Sauce which can turn anything you buy into an American masterpiece.

Independents day is a great way of highlighting independent shops and everything they have to offer - we are proud to be part of this and offer something special to celebrate.”

The national campaign, now in its fourth year, aims to promote and celebrate independent businesses across the UK. This year it will focus on raising awareness of the vast amount of support that is available to independent businesses to help them train their employees, become more competitive and grow.

G. N. Badley & Sons was set up in 1976 by Simon’s father Keith who has since sadly passed away.
He now runs the family business with his mother Kay.
She added: “We have never got involved in Independents Day before but we have had great fun planning it.

“I think we may well mark this day every year from now on because for us, as a small family butchers, being independent is something we hold very dear and thrive on. We are constantly competing against the big chains and supermarkets. Not only are we thinking outside the box of ways to develop our business and give the customer what works for them, we are also investing in training our staff. Our staff have customer service training and will be undergoing training on how to update and change our website so that it is always accurate. I am also going on a social media training course - we think this type of training is essential and what better way to highlight this than Independents Day.”

The company is one of only eight butchers in Shropshire that offers an online order system and delivers products to homes and businesses across the UK.
