For around 900 years, the ancient Church and the Rectory of St James have been at the heart of the little village of Stirchley. This haven of peace and quiet, located just a mile from Telford centre but well away from the hustle and bustle of the town, has proved a popular choice for both business and tourist guests for many years.
Now under the loving care and ownership of Rosemary and Adrian Brown, you can expect a warm welcome at this quintessentially English Guest House with your hosts providing the many personal touches that set it apart from the rest.
As the name suggests, originally the Rectory of St James' Church from the 17th century, The Old Rectory was converted for use as bed & breakfast accommodation during the late 1900s and has now been fully renovated and lovingly refurbished by the new owners. Rosemary and Adrian look forward to welcoming you to this oasis of peace and quiet which is just 1 mile from the busy centre of Telford, and conveniently located for the Shropshire hills, the historic Ironbridge Gorge, Telford International Centre, historic Shrewsbury and beyond.
With the emphasis on a convivial atmosphere and simple things done well, you'll find generously sized rooms with all of the facilities you would expect; but it's the extra touches that make this guest house one of the best - a vase of fresh flowers in your room; the delicious evening meals; afternoon tea and home made cakes on your arrival, and a delicious cooked breakfast (early option available) made from locally sourced ingredients, including homemade bread and jams, plus eggs from the resident hens. All meals are served in the beautifully refurbished Dining Room which benefits from an open fire.
There's free Wi-Fi Internet access, you can bring your own beer and wine, and they'll cater for Coeliac and Vegetarian Diets as required. You won't find these things generally available elsewhere, which perhaps explains why The Old Rectory is so popular and people return time and again - families, business people, cyclists and walkers - The Old Rectory gives them all a special welcome. It's popular with cyclists being on the NCN55 (National Cycle Network) and cycle hire can be arranged for those who require it. Facilities also include disabled / wheelchair access.
With every bedroom individually named and stylishly presented, a large private garden to stroll and relax in (subject to the weather!) and a fascinating history dating right back to the 1600's, along with a host of attractions and places to visit all within easy travelling distance, The Old Rectory of St James is well worth a stay.
