R. Thomson Carpentry and Joinery is proud to be recognised as one of Shropshire's leading exponents of traditional carpentry skills, offering customer service and quality of work which is second to none. Owner Roy Thomson is an experienced and respected carpenter and joiner, who spent years learning his trade working in the bespoke furniture manufacturing industry. His company is based in Telford, but operates across Shropshire and parts of mid Wales, working with both domestic and commercial customers.
Understanding the inconvenience and disruption that having tradesmen in your home or office can cause, Roy works hard to keep this to a minimum, offering flexible working hours which allow the work to be done around your home or work life, and including some evening and weekend working if that's what is required. No job is too big or too small and the same level of skill, craftsmanship and effort is applied whatever the job.
Internal work
Roy is happy to offer all manner of internal carpentry and joinery services, including:
- supplying and hanging all types of internal and external doors, including fire doors.
- window repair and replacement - from wooden to UPVC. Each window is treated individually to your needs and all replacement windows are fully draft proof. Where possible, Roy will replace damaged or misted glass giving your windows a new life.
- kitchens - whether brand new fully fitted, or replacement worktops and doors to give your kitchen a new lease of life.
- replacing or repairing bannisters with new hand rails and spindles, from traditional turned spindles to more modern styles.
- architrave or skirting matched to existing woodwork in your house, whether a new extension, revamped room or to replace missing or damaged sections.
- flooring - replacing existing floor with laminate or real wood to suit a wide range of styles and tastes (including waterproof laminate for bathrooms).
- stud walling - made to any length or height, incorporating doors and windows.
- glass partitions incorporating toughened glass - single or double glazed units in a timber frame work.
- Lofts and attics - from fitting loft insulation to boarding out your loft, including widening access hatches and installing new wooden ladders.
External work

- decking - an attractive feature in any garden when properly installed. All timber used can be fully treated to minimise maintenance and prevent rot.

We recently had a new french door and window fitted, the quality of the window and door are excellent, it seemed a shame to paint them and hide the wood's natural finish. The team were pleasant and hard working.
