Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre at Monkton Heathfield near Taunton is hosting a free Garden Bedding Weekend on Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6.

Andrew Pitman, Duty and Plant Manager, said: “Here at the garden centre we pride ourselves on our gardening expertise so we’re offering visitors a wealth of advice on brightening up their homes with hanging baskets, borders, window boxes, tubs and containers.”

“We can let people know what colours work best together, which composts to use and which plants are best for achieving maximum effect.”

During the weekend there will be free advice sheets and leaflets for people to take home, while stocks last.

Andrew continued: “We want people’s gardens to be blooming this summer so anyone is welcome to pop in and benefit from the free advice we have to offer. We can offer tips on creating eye-catching colour schemes as well as how to water, feed and deadhead your baskets and containers too.

“One best of British theme we’re promoting this summer is red, white and blue in time for the Commonwealth Games and to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of WW1. It’s important to fly the flag for our country so it would be great if people wanted to plant up red, white and blue themed tubs, planters, baskets and beds and we can let them know how to do so.”

The free Garden Bedding Weekend will take place on Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6 during normal garden centre opening hours.
