Did you know that one in eight children leave school unable to read? Your help is desperately needed here in Sutton.

Beanstalk is a national charity that works with children to prevent them from falling behind in school with their reading.

They are particularly looking within Sutton for volunteers who can spare 1.5 hours  two times per week to read and support a child in a one to one format.  This is an ideal opportunity for an older, perhaps retired person to help support a maybe under priviledged child and encourage them to expand their horizons and to grow in confidence and ability.  However, this is not restricted just to older people and if you feel you can afford the time, then you will be very welcome.

A volunteer was recently quoted as saying:

"When I retired, I felt I needed a structure to my week - doing voluntary work through Beanstalk provided that.  Life has been good and being a reading helper has been a way of 'giving back'.  The reading sessions are so enjoyable and the children without exception are delightful, in different ways.  It is rewarding when their reading ability improves and we see their confidence grow."

If you feel that you would like to make a big difference to a child's education here in Sutton, then contact Beanstalk HERE or call 020 7730 8259 where they will be happy to discuss this with you.

See how YOU can make such a positive influence on a child's life.
