It’s a ‘giant’ new era for pantomime in Sutton Coldfield this year – with the classic tale of Jack and the Beanstalk set to give audiences a festive treat.

The family favourite panto will be staged at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall this Christmas after new production company TaleGate Theatre Productions Ltd won the production contract in conjunction with Sutton Coldfield Town Hall.

The panto runs from Saturday 9 to Sunday 31 December, including a selection of weekday daytime shows for schools audiences.

TaleGate Theatre Productions Ltd are professional theatre producers with a wealth of experience in children’s and family theatre, especially pantomime, including shows produced in the West End.

The panto sees the Royal town of Suttonia in danger with The Giant Blunderbore seeking to destroy the green belt to build a nuclear power plant. Meanwhile, times are tough for Trott’s dairies and they have to sell their favourite cow, Daisy, at the Vintage Fair. When all seems lost, a beanstalk grows in Sutton Park…..

Sutton Coldfield Town Hall Venue Manager Nick Furlong, said: “We are delighted to be working with TaleGate, bringing their esteemed reputation for pantomime on a grand scale, but with local references and charm at its heart.

“Pantomime for a local community like ours is incredibly important. It is many young people’s first experience of theatre, and for some, their only experience annually. I am thrilled that we will be bringing audiences the timeless classic, Jack and the Beanstalk this Christmas – the excitement is already palpable.”

James Worthington, TaleGate Theatre Productions Artistic Director, added: “This Christmas, Sutton Coldfield Town Hall will be transformed into the royal town of Suttonia. Oh yes it will! A bustling market town with a GIANT problem.

“Jack and the Beanstalk was first presented at London’s Drury Lane in 1819 and has continued to be one of the most popular pantomimes presented. With magic, adventure, thrills and spills- what is not to love about this wonderful tale?

“Together we will bring this story right up to date with pop songs for all ages, dazzling special effects and more glitter than milk in the diary. With Sutton Coldfield Town Hall’s beautiful venue and TaleGate’s pantomime know-how, the future is sparkling for panto in Sutton.”

The Town Hall will also be featuring access performances during the run, in the form of a relaxed performance, aimed at those with additional needs and sensory challenges; as well as a signed (BSL) performance, featuring an interpreter on stage.

Jack and the Beanstalk at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall tickets were on sale from tomorrow. They can be purchased online 24/7 at the town hall website , in person at the box office or over the phone on 0121 296 9543 Mon-Fri 10am-2pm.

An early bird offer will provide 10 per cent off tickets (public performances only, excluding school shows) throughout the run when booking before the end of June.
