The Town Council will be hosting a community event at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall on Tuesday 17 October (10am-3pm) for older adults who are vulnerable to falls and frailty.

It is also an opportunity for those supporting them, such as family members and carers, to take away information for those they support.

Residents will be able to receive advice from health professionals as well as taking part in taster sessions and activities to help improve their balance and strength.

The aim for the day is to inform visitors on how they can reduce their risk of falls and stay independent and stronger for longer.

Activities and taster sessions on the day include:

  • Walking Netball
  • Seated Yoga and Seated Zumba
  • Balance and strength exercise demonstrated by Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists.
  • Love To Move, a seated gymnastics session for movement and improvement of cognitive function.

Representatives from NHS Birmingham Community Healthcare Trust Falls Prevention Team will be on hand to answer any questions and offer advice and guidance on mobility.

The event is also being supported by representatives from charities and local community groups such as the Alzheimer’s Society and Age Concern as well as faith groups.

Supporting those who may be vulnerable to falls is the current key priority of the Town Council’s Health and Wellbeing Partnership.
