The Belfry Hotel & Resort near Sutton Coldfield has launched its own signature gin, 1960.
The gin is described as a distinct blend of home-grown botanicals and flowery notes from the roses and lavender in the resort’s courtyard, willow on the golf courses and honey from its own ‘Belfry Bees’.
Tasting notes for 1960 say it has a traditional juniper heart with a characterful citrus forward.
The home-grown botanicals and honey ensure the gin is delicate but fragrant, with distinctive floral tones that give way to a beautiful long-lasting pine aroma.
The gin has been specially crafted to create a soft and smooth taste and the home-grown botanicals in the blend reflect the resort’s commitment to using locally sourced produce wherever possible.
The name of the gin, 1960, represents the year The Belfry was founded, and the tipple is presented in a stylish Belfry Bell shaped cut glass bottle topped with a gold glass golf ball as a nod to the resort’s distinguished golf heritage.
“We’re delighted to be serving guests our new 1960 gin - it’s been an exciting journey from distilling to the final stages of production and then having our first taste of the finished gin”, said Varun Shetty, director of food and beverage at the resort.
“It was very important to us to ensure that the gin is reflective of the beautiful environment at The Belfry and of our commitment to sustainability. To achieve this, we have had botanicals and produce from across the resort incorporated into the blend, something we felt was absolutely crucial to do. We hope our guests love 1960 as much as we do!”
Throughout March, The Belfry is celebrating the launch with a limited-edition Gin Afternoon Tea created by head pastry chef, Adam Hall.
Guests can unwind in The Brabazon Bar and enjoy an afternoon tea inspired by the botanicals found in 1960.
The Gin Afternoon Tea features a selection of sandwiches and sweet treats with a botanical and tipsy twist including homemade ginger biscuits - Gin & Tonic drizzle cake, orange and lavender cheesecake, rose petal macaroons, honey butter tart and lemon and gin choux buns.
The Belfry’s Gin Afternoon Tea is available to book throughout March - prices start from £30 per person Monday to Friday, and £32 per person on Saturday and Sunday.
The Belfry’s 1960 gin is available to buy at reception for £65.
