Stroud receives nomination in The Great Town Award

Stroud is one of the greatest towns in Great Britain according to a panel of leading planning experts!

It was one of three locations nominated for The Great Town Award, alongside Westport (Ireland) and the eventual winner, Hebden Bridge (West Yorkshire).

The nomination described Stroud as 'one of the more authentically gritty and industrial of the Cotswold towns'.

John Thompson, chair of the Academy of Urbanism, said "we look for signs of a town with a strong identity."

The team of judges were searching for evidence of "a dynamic local economy and residents who thrive off community spirit. Stroud certainly has all of that."

“The judges weren't looking for chocolate box perfection but places where all sections of the community are getting involved to make their town a better place to work, rest and play," said Stroud’s Mayor.

The Awards are part of an annual competition organised by the Academy of Urbanism, an international body of experts.

We live in the northern half of the Cotswolds near Chipping Norton, and have been here for 25 years - we love it, and we hope you do too!
