Less than five miles from Stratford is Wellesbourne Mountford Airfield – one of the area’s busiest private airports and airfields. Boasting a wide range of flying schools, pleasure flights, an aviation-themed museum, cafe and the famous Wellesbourne Market, it is ideal for days out and attractions.
Originally an RAF base, Wellesbourne Mountford Airfield is home to a variety of flying clubs, a self-contained conference room, museum, historic aircraft, cafe and one of the largest outdoor markets in the UK.
The airfield is situated just five miles east of Stratford and is a fantastic day out for the whole family.

The Wellington Room
The Wellington Room is a purpose-built, modern conference facility based on the Airfield, which offers all mod-cons in a unique location.
The Wellington Room can hold up to 40 delegates and features wi-fi internet access and audio-visual equipment. Catering can be tailored to your needs, ranging from self-service tea and coffee to a full buffet.
Available on an hourly basis, there is plenty of free parking on-site and a wide selection of local accommodation available.
Wellesbourne Mountford Airfield Museum
Set up in the late 1980's, the museum occupies what was once the underground emergency wartime command and control bunker, and is home to a variety of displays covering the history of the airfield, World War II memorabilia and artefacts and aircraft components.
The museum is open from 10am until 4pm on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays; there is no entry fee but donations towards its upkeep are gratefully received.
Avro Vulcan XM655
The Avro Vulcan XM655 was one of the last v-bombers that was manufactured for the RAF and throughout the 60's and 70's, was an essential part of the UK's nuclear deterrent force.
Brought to Wellesbourne Mountford Airfield in 1984, the XM655 is one of the few Vulcans still in ground running condition, and performs taxi runs for the public a couple of times a year. For a small donation, visitors are welcome to look around the aircraft on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays.
Touchdown Inn
Famous for its mammoth all day breakfasts, the Touchdown Inn offers diners a wide variety of delicious, great value food.
For those of you with a lighter appetite, why not opt for a freshly prepared sandwich, baguette or salad? Alternatively, if you're looking for something more substantial, the lovely Laura is fantastic at cooking lasagne, cottage pie, ham, egg and chips or scampi. And of course, no-one can resist a homemade cake!
The café also stands out because of its amazing location; with a patio facing the taxiway, you can enjoy your food whilst watching aircraft taking off and landing!
The Touchdown Inn is open daily from 9am until 5pm.
Wellesbourne Market
Open from 9am until 4pm every Saturday and Summer Bank Holiday Mondays, Wellesbourne Airfield Market is one of the UK's largest outdoor markets. With over 500 stalls, as well as a wide range of food and entertainment for the kids (including a blow-up slide) it's a fantastic day out for the whole family.
