On a cold bleak Tuesday in December we visited The Golden Cross Country Inn on the Wexford Road, Ardens Grafton . B50 4LG
This traditional English pub has the choice of formal dining in an impressive dining room, or the chance to eat in a traditional English Country pub setting surrounded by beams and a roaring open fire!
We were warmly greeted by Debbie who has recently taken over the lease after managing the business for the last three years. Debbie has a forward thinking attitude and an eye for attention to detail. She prides herself that her chefs use local produce to prepare a wide selection of dishes and only use the best ingredients.
On the menu an old and famous dish has made a return - The Golden Cross Faggots- this dish once had people coming by the coach load to the pub and after sampling it I can see why. Apparently the recipe is a secret and only just been rediscovered!
The Golden Cross has so much more to offer though. Every Sunday throughout December from 4pm there will be a Christmas market with stalls offering a variety of locally produced goods.
Every Thursday is " Songs and Steak" - a chance to listen to local musicians and to enjoy a steak.
