Simpson Must Strengthen

Paul Simpson is facing an uphill battle to boost his Stockport County squad in the January transfer window.

County will be 21st in League Two and a point above the relegation places on christmas day. With no cash to bring in new blood, Simpson must be inventive if he is to improve his current crop and avoid the drop come May 7.

In order to do this Simpson may have to sacrifice some of the 27 players currently on the payroll. He would however be prepared to do this, in order to add quality to his side.

With the absence of Danny Swales to a knee ligament injury, Stockport have conceded 26 goals in 10 games, so topping Simpson's wish list would be an experienced centre half.

There are also problems at the other end of the pitch. With the likelihood of both George Donnelly and Wes Fletcher returning to their parent clubs next month, a striker is an absolute must.

We shall have to wait and hope that Simpson and County can turn this corner by returning to winning ways and start the climb back up League Two.
