Soldiers in Moldova have been issued with an extra ration of garlic and onions in order to ward off swine flu, the defence ministry's chief doctor said last Thursday.

They are all getting an extra 25 grams (one ounce) of onion and 15 grams of garlic in their daily ration. As well as being good for the heart, the garlic family is also a natural anti-biotic. (You can get yours from one of our farm shops)

So far, 24 soldiers have completed treatment for swine flu, while 19 are in hospital with acute respiratory infections. In total, Moldova has registered more than 900 cases of the A(H1N1) Swine flu virus infection.

This week, most schools and universities reopened after a quarantine period By was lifted, but five schools and one university remain closed.
