The Blue Plaque Scheme from Southwark Heritage was launched 7 years ago to celebrate people and places of Southwark Borough that have either made made a significant contributions or perfromed an outstanding achievement for the local area.

Blue Plaques and who, where or why they should be awarded to are determined by the people of Southwark. Any resident living in the Southwark can highlight their choice for who should receive a Blue Plaque which can be a person or a place, and once a year the nominations are assessed by the Southwark Heritage fund who then decide which of the nominations entered shall receive one that year.

The number of applications received by the Southwark Heritage fund varies each year as does the number of Blue Plaques awarded. There are 40 Blue packs dotted around the borough to date, 20 of them were awarded during the schemes launch in 2003.
