Just half an hour from Southport, Croxteth Hall & Country Park must be one of the best family days out in the area.

The hall was bequeathed to the city of Liverpool and its people in 1980 by the last Earl of Sefton and it was opened to the public soon after. The hall is beautifully preserved and presented to show life in the Victorian era, with rooms decorated and staff dressed in costume of that period both above and below stairs.

The grounds are extensive and there are lots of activities for children of all ages, from seeing the animals at Home Farm to the adventure playgrounds (there are two, one suitable for very young children).

For gardening fans there is the walled garden- once the provider of all the fruit and vegetables for 'the big house'.

a series of events is held throughout the year, Check the website for details.
