The Crossens Canoe on display in the Botanic Gardens Museum has been chosen as one of the 10 objects to represent the History of Merseyside. This forms part of the project between the British Museum and the BBC to tell the history of the World in objects.
The Canoe is one of 11 found in the mud at Crossens in 1899, but is the only one to survive. It has been carbon dated to 535AD , a period between the Romans leaving and the arrival of the Anglo-Saxons.
The canoe was chosen because it has both global and local importance - one of the criteria for objects.
