Spring seems to officially be here, and that means summer is just around the corner.

And the first signs of spring also bring us some excellent car boot sales and farmers markets where you can get your hands on fantastic bargains and top quality local produce.

The 'Car Boot Sale' was first introduced to the UK by a Catholic priest from Stockport, who saw a similar event in Canada in the early 1970s and they quickly became a part of the English weekend.

Southend is, of course, no different and this coming weekend we have two car boot sales in the area who have listed on thebestof Southend’s events guide.

Taking place in Billericay and Canvey Island on Saturday, the former takes place at Great Wasketts Farm, Gardiners Lane kicking off at 6.00am for sellers with buyers arriving at 7.00am. Cars are £7, vans £10 with a 20p admission fee for buyers.

The Canvey Island car boot sale is at Sadlers Farm and starts at 7.30.

Southend town centre sees a taste of the countryside on every second and fourth Saturday of the month in the High Street. The best Farmers Market in Essex it gives you the opportunity to get your hands on some great local produce from jams and chutneys to fresh eggs, rustic bread and succulent sausages... all without having to leave the town centre!

See our events guide for details on these and other great events in and around Southend.
