SOUTHEND AIRPORT ANNOUNCES NEW HOTEL
It has been announced that the new £10million hotel at Southend Airport will be a Holiday Inn.
The 129-bedroom facility will be part of the world’s largest hotel brand.
A 100-seater bar and restaurant will be built on the top floor, with panoramic views of the airport and surrounding area.
It will offer twin, double and executive rooms, as well as luxury suites. There will also be conference rooms available. Work began on the five-storey venue last month and bosses hope it will be finished by next summer, in time for the London Olympics.
Alastair Welch, airport managing director, said: “Holiday Inn, part of the Intercontinental Hotels Group, is known for its mid-range prices, with overnight stays costing between £50 and £100.
“This hotel is a key part of Stobart’s plans to modernise Southend Airport, with superior quality and convenience both ingredients to its success. This hotel will improve facilities for passengers and flight crew, while becoming an exciting new resource for local businesses.
“I believe the new restaurant will become a destination venue for the community and people travelling from outside the town.”
