FREE PARKING IN SOUTHEND in the run up to Christmas

Boost your Christmas bargain-hunting with free parking in Southend Town Centre and elsewhere, on Thursday evenings and all day Sundays this December.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is offering this festive parking bonus to help residents and visitors relax and enjoy their Christmas shopping without having to rush to meet deadlines for pay and display tickets or parking meters.

Instead they can get immersed in their shopping with no need to worry about the time.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s Executive Councillor for Public Protection, Waste and Transport, Councillor Tony Cox said: “We are delighted to repeat this free parking opportunity on Thursday evenings and Sundays in the run up to Christmas.

“It proved very welcome last year, giving residents, visitors to the town and retailers, a helping hand. It encourages people to stay longer, so they can make the most of our local shops.

“This saves money for shoppers as they can buy gifts locally without having to spend vital cash on parking, or on petrol to go further afield – so it supports our local retailers too.

“Free parking makes it even more inviting to come along and enjoy the Christmas-on-Sea experience.”

Free parking will be available after 4pm on Thursday the 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd December and all day on Sunday the 4th, 11th, 18th December – and on Christmas Day - at the following locations:

  • Alexandra Street
  • Clarence Road
  • Elmer Approach
  • Essex Street
  • Warrior Square
  • Elm Road Leigh
  • North Street Leigh
  • Ceylon Road
  • Thorpe Broadway
  • University Square
  • Tylers Avenue
  • London Road North
  • York Road Market
  • Seaway Car Park

Check with individual stores and shopping centres for other parking offers, and look out for the extra Southend Town Centre attractions, such as the Festive Fun Day on Saturday 3rd December, Carols for Christmas on Saturday 17th December, and the Christmas Farmers Market and Crafts Market in Southend High Street every Saturday in December as well as on Friday 23rd December.
