Slough Mela
In association with Asian Star 1016, Zee TV and the BBC’s Asian network

The word ‘Mela’ has a long and colourful history originating from the Sanskrit ‘To Meet’. Mela’s provided the opportunity for families and communities to come together to celebrate a range of religious, cultural or artistic events.

In South Asia Mela’s continue to be an integral part of life. In the UK however, the word has developed and evolved a whole new meaning – FESTIVAL!

Festival aptly describes an exciting summer outdoor event with an emphasis on a cultural and artistic programme. Featuring a mix of music, food and information Mela’s offer an excellent opportunity for the whole community to come together and celebrate irrespective of ethnic background providing a crucial link with the community.

On 24th July, the Slough Mela will bring together the diverse ethnic communities from Slough and the surrounding areas as one big happy family at Upton Court Park. Here you will find attractions ranging from “all the fun of the fair” through to live concert music together with community, information and food trade stands.

An exciting line up is currently being finalised and will be announced soon. Keep checking ’thebestof Slough’s events page for more details or call the Slough Mela Enquiry Hotline on 07841 918 434 – available 7 days a week until 9pm.
