A specialist plants centre in Shrewsbury is celebrating National Tree Week from November 29 to December 7 by offering a 15 per cent discount on ornamental trees.

Love Plants, based at caravan and motorhome dealership Salop Leisure’ headquarters at Emstrey, will be focusing on the different varieties of trees and planting tips throughout the week.

“National Tree Week is designed to make the public realise the importance of planting trees,” said Love Plants’ manager Tim Robinson. “Described as the lungs of the earth, treesprovide us with oxygen and are great for animals, birds and insects who need them for food and a home to live in.”

Established in 1975, National Tree Week is the UK's largest annual tree celebration, launching the start of the winter tree planting season. Each year, The Tree Council and its partners aim to inspire around a quarter of a million people to get their hands dirty and plant around a million trees.

A mature English Oak tree is home to more than 284 species of insect alone, not counting all the other species that it supports. Although many may think there's never a tree far away, the truth is that most places in Europe have many more wooded areas than the UK.
