A documentary film-maker will be hoping to reveal some of the answers surrounding a debilitating illness when the Shropshire ME Group stages its annual conference this month.

The group was set up to help those people affected by ME - Myalgic Encephalopathy, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Post-Viral Fatigue Syndrome.

Open to the public

The annual conference will be held at Bayston Hill Memorial Hall on Tuesday, October 18 from 6.30pm.

Part of the evening will feature The Forgotten Plague, an hour-long documentary by Emmy Award winner Nicole Castille and Ryan Prior.

Group chair Jonathan Kidson, an ME sufferer, said anyone was welcome to attend the meeting and it was free entry.

Searching for answers to ME

“Ryan was a student with ME with many questions about the illness, who later became a documentary film-maker with ME who is still searching for answers,” Johnathan said.

“As someone who also has ME affecting my life, I fully understand where that comes from and we hope the film screening of The Forgotten Plague, followed by a discussion, will be of benefit to those people who are trying to find their own answers to the illness.

“The illness is often misunderstood and can be extremely difficult to understand and since 1987 our group has helped thousands of people.

“It can be a source of great comfort to those newly diagnosed with the illness when they know they have a point of contact and can meet with volunteers or members.”

Donations are welcome

He continued: “Events and conferences are free to attend but we are always happy to take donations and if anyone wants to become a member there is a charge of £5 a year.

“Members are updated about all the group’s activities in a newsletter which we publish every second month.

“The AGM will take place at 6.30pm prior to the conference and there will be refreshments available on the night.”
