Shrewsbury College is encouraging people to follow the words of Benjamin Franklin who said “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today” and broaden their horizons in 2015 with part-time courses at the College.

With 2014 drawing to a close, Shrewsbury College is inviting people to look at its wide range of part-time courses, many of which are starting in January.

Whether you want to develop your skills, pursue a new career or improve in your current one, the College offers qualifications across a wide range of subjects from Digital Photography to DIY and Salon Management to Spanish.

Some courses may have fee remissions depending on your individual circumstances or even free.

Students aged 24 and over, studying courses at Level 3 and above, may also be eligible for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan, a government initiative which was created to encourage adults back into education.

The loan is not means tested and is not repayable until the student is earning more than £21,000 a year.

Catherine Armstrong, Assistant Principal and Operations, said: “We have looked at the curriculum carefully and have sought to offer part-time adult courses which will enhance people’s careers locally and also offer an opportunity to learn something interesting and new – even if it’s just for their own personal gain.”

Hannah Gurden, 25, Shrewsbury, previously studied Hairdressing at Shrewsbury College and now runs her own Salon NuYu, Shrewsbury. She said: “The College helped me with childcare and financial support while I was doing my course.

“The course helped me greatly with my confidence and although parts of the course were intense, I stuck with it. I had always wanted to own my own salon, so for me the College helped me gain my dream job. Owning my own salon means I can work around my family.”

The College will be hosting an Advice Event on Thursday, January 15 at London Road from , 5pm – 7pm so call in for more information. Alternatively you can call 01743 342325 or visit www.shrewsbury.ac.uk
