Ian is a very good teacher. My son (age 11) has progressed at an excellent rate, passing his first exam with a Distinction. Ian relates to and works well with my son and I would recommend him as a teacher.

I have been taking lessons from Ian for six months and have found him to be a brilliant tutor with a wide range of music knowledge that is not only useful when starting out but also helps to engage me and keep me focused on practising. He has a very flexible style of teaching while keeping you focused on the essentials of learning to play. He has made learning an instrument a joy which, for me, was important as I have always been slightly nervous of starting. I thoroughly recommend Ian as a tutor.

My young Daughter had been learning guitar for 18 months before she started lessons with Ian around three months ago. The changeover to Ian has made an astonishing difference to her. Ian has a lovely calm, patient nature, but also an order and structure to each lesson which my Daughter finds easier to follow. Now she is eager to practice and impress Ian each week, something which is really pleasing to see. I would thoroughly recommend using Ian; his fees are reasonable and he is a great musician who genuinely loves what he does.

Ian has been teaching me guitar for nearly 3 years. He is a very honest, friendly man who has endless patience and does his best to help you achieve the objectives you set yourself. I was fortunate enough to come across Ian at the point when I was going to give up and he encouraged me to keep going and boosted my confidence. If you have never played guitar before or, as in my case, tried and given up, ask Ian to teach you and you'll be surprised at what you can achieve! Ivan

I have had several lessons with Ian, who suggested that I take the RGT exams. Quite nerve wracking as I had not touched a guitar for 40 years, and then only playing by ear. Ian's encouragement and patience with my pathetic progress was just what I needed, and I passed the first 2 grades with distinction - amazing! I have booked more lessons, as it's so rewarding and good for the old brain. Brilliant tuition and excellent company. Really enjoyable lessons at an encouraging level. Many thanks, Mike Fox

I had a few lessons with Ian Law of Goldcrest, after years away from the guitar. Ian was patient, provided good clear advice and was competitively priced. He is to be recommended.

I have been taught by Ian for two months and, according to my sister who is a an experienced guitarist, she reckons Iʼve made rapid progress. This is largely down to Ianʼs teaching, which is strutctured and well thought out. I plan to take the RGT guitar exams and Ian is able to prepare students for them which was an essential requirement for me. Ian has played the guitar since he was a child and he is clearly a master of his chosen instrument capable of teaching bass and electric in addition to accoustic. I recommend him without reservation. Ian is a very calm, patient teacher who is happy to repeat any skills that I find difficult to pick up. He introduced stumming well known songs early on when I started learning the guitar, which helped to motivate me and made practicing more interesting. The lessons are enjoyable and varied, and I would recommend Ian to anyone who wants to learn to play the guitar. Ellie Martin

Ian is a gifted musician. He is calm, patient and enthusiastic. Even for the more advanced student (both in age and experience) he has something new to offer. He is also prepared to put himself out to support his pupils at concerts.Warren Perks.

Ian has been teaching me guitar (accoustic and then electric) for just under 5 months in which time Iʼve seen fantastic results.

Ianʼs style of teaching is both interesting and fun, and means that learning is never dull; this helps motivate me during the week to practise and improve.

However what has impressed me most about Ianʼs teaching is that he ensures his students progress in all areas and not just what their favourite skill is. For example I am massive fan of strumming songs but Ian has persisted in teaching me other skills (fretboard knowledge, arpegiation and playing lead for example) which has started to, and ultimately will continue to develop my knowledge and skill of the guitar to a much higher level.

I would recommend that anyone living in Shrewsbury or nearby who wants to learn to play guitar or improve their current skill set to contact Ian.

Ian worked with my son for a period of about 6 months. He learnt more with Ian than he did in 2 years with other teachers. He gave him confidence to be able to teach himself. Would highly recommend; don't waste your money trying to find a better teacher!

Ian began teaching my son guitar in September 2008 and his relaxed and calm style of teaching has helped my son make great progress.
He looks forward to his lessons every week as Ian makes an effort to understand what kind of music he wants to play to help him enjoy it. The lessons appear to be a good combination of teaching technical ability and fun and I would wholeheartedly recommend Ian as a teacher.

I have been taking lessons from Ian for eight months and have found him to be exactly the type of tutor I needed. He has an easy, affable style of teaching and is very knowledgeable on the subject. He has simplified learning for me and I am sure my progression in playing is down to Ian.
I thoroughly recommend Ian as a tutor to anyone.
