Phew, what a scorcher. Hands up who's already praying for winter...? But when the sun's out, everyone's in a good mood, town seems busy again and even Murray's sailing through Wimbledon. It doesn't get much better than that. And Murray's a Brit not a Scot, remember - till he crashes out at least. Of course, here's to hoping he gets through and gives Federer a damn good thrashing.
What the adults in Shrewsbury need on a day like this is a nice cold beer or a glass of white wine. A few friends are popping down to The Salopian on Smithfield Road for just that tonight. Shropshire Pub of the Year last year, as selected by the wise folks at CAMRA.
I'd also like to welcome two new rays of sunshine to thebestof Shrewsbury, namely Indigo Decking & Flooring and Toot Sweets Confectionery. Both are family-owned businesses in Shrewsbury and are lovely people - I can say that because I've met them!
Indigo is owned by Tony and Helen Reynolds and they specialise in quality wooden flooring - supply, fit, repairs, restoration... you name it. They've worked for both Shrewsbury homes and businesses.
Toot Sweets is the dazzling new sweet shop on Butcher Row, Shrewsbury Town Centre. It's like stepping into Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. A wonderful place with bags of choice, whether you're after 'old school' sweets or fine Belgian truffles.
So if you're out quenching your thirst in Shrewsbury tonight and the place you're in is a good'un, let us know. An independent bar or restaurant, somewhere that you love and others will too. Then I can shout about it for you.
