Tackling Unemployment in Salford

Salford is one of the most affected areas of Greater Manchester to be stung by unemployment, and the situation has only worsened over the past few years of recession. Recently the city has shown the highest annual growth in unemployment numbers, particularly among youths, and despite money being driven into Salford the situation remains unchanged.

With the government’s attempts to solve the unemployment crisis doing little or nothing to help, local people of Salford have taken it upon themselves to find a solution, and will be hosting a day-long conference at the Friends Meeting House in Manchester this Saturday (26th May). ‘Changing Unemployment – For An Alternative’, is hosting speakers such as Tony Moore and Alec McFadden, amongst others from Salford’s Unemployed centre and trade unions.

This local conference is free and open to all, and is aiming to find alternative ideas to those of the well-known political parties, in the hope of finding better methods of coping with the rising numbers of unemployed people. Not only this, but by bringing together local campaigners and union spokespeople from different areas of Salford, networks can be made, and we can all work together to tackle unemployment.

For free advice and help with unemployment issues, people can visit the Salford Unemployed and Community Resource Centre in Eccles, or even make use of the Salford City Council website to search for local jobs!
