"Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream..."

The Bridgewater Canal is looking fabulous in June, the tow path is renovated between Sale and Stretford  and the leafy paths along the canal are busy with walkers, strollers and cyclists.

This week I discovered another  excellent way to enoy the Canal, make the most of the warm evenings and get some exercise. On Thursday I spent a delightful couple of hours at an introduction to  rowing on the canal, courtesy of the Trafford Rowing Club who are located at the Walton Park Sports Centre on Raglan Rd in Sale.

As part of the week-long activities celebrating the new stretch of towpath from Sale to Stretford, Trafford Rowing Club gave each beginner a boat and an instructor and in less than an hour we were rowing up and down quite nicely, enjoying the quiet splash of the blades and manouevering between canal banks and oncoming narrow boats.

Riannon was my instructor, fun, encouraging and patient -- thank you Riannon!

Trafford Rowing Club is a very friendly, inclusive club and a wonderful resource for Sale, it has been around since 1957 and is the only rowing club in South  Manchester, it is not affiliated with the University.

If the thought of rowing on the Bridgewater Canal appeals to you.. have a look at the Trafford Rowing Club's website www.traffordrc.org
