Rugby's Clock Towers shopping centre was brought to a close this week by a hoax bomb.
On Thursday, shortly after midday, shopping centre management were tipped off about a possible explosive device. Management staff alerted the police and the shopping centre, along with surrounding streets, was evacuated.
The evacuated shoppers and staff were taken to Caldecott Park, whilst police officers swept the building.
No such device was found, leading police to conclude the call was a hoax and all those evacuated were allowed back into the area just after 1pm.
So not only was the hoax caller responsible for wasting police time and resources; they also halted trade in the town centre, leading to many local shops losing out on essential trade.
