Whitworth Christmas Lights ‘Buy a Bulb’ Campaign

The community of Whitworth need your help!

The Tourism and Leisure Committee is the first to admit that the Christmas Lights weren’t looking at their best last year.  The Town Council and Rossendale Borough Council have agreed to purchase new lights for the trees in the Memorial Gardens, which will go a long way to making things look shinier and brighter.  However, we want to go one step further, and we need the community’s help.

The Whitworth Tourism and Leisure Committee and CLAW have launched a ‘Buy a Christmas Bulb’ appeal, with the aim of improving the Christmas lights display in the town and giving it more of a ‘wow’ factor.  Initially, we’re raising funds to replace the very tired looking street lighting column displays, but the hope is that we might be able to raise enough money to extend the display to other parts of Whitworth, too.  If you’d like to make a donation to the appeal, there’s a minimum donation of £5; contact Lisa at the Riverside on 01706 854130 / email riverside-whitworth@zen.co.uk for more information.

Additionally, we’re currently costing up the price of the trees bracketed on to buildings, which looked so lovely along the main road when they were introduced a good number of years ago.  Once the brackets are in place it will just be a case of replacing the tree each year so the cost should be minimal.  If you live, or if you have a business, on the main road and you’d be interested in having a tree on your house, phone Karen at the Town Council on 01706 852018 or email info@whitworth.gov.uk and we’ll keep in touch with you.
