Local theatre and professional arts centre providing Rossendale and surrounding areas with a unique arts and entertainment experience!
Horse + Bamboo launched the Boo, Rossendale's newest - and only - professional arts centre, in September 2007. Through Arts Council funding combined with some funding from Lancashire County Council and The Tempest Trust the company were able to embark on a £75,000 substantial technical upgrade.
THE CREATIVE BUILDING
Horse + Bamboo have a wonderful building in Waterfoot - originally a Liberal Club, then a social club, a cinema, a roller skating rink, a shoe factory, a warehouse and …… eventual disrepair. Lottery funding in 1995 helped Horse + Bamboo revitalise this wonderful building which is now Rossendale's creative hub. It is an inspiring venue for a huge variety of organisations who hire it for meetings and conferences. It is also the hub of a series of workshops aimed at professionals working in the creative sector.
The Boo is a centre of excellence focused on a regular programme of events both for the family and for adult audiences. It has a special identity in emphasising non-verbal theatre events. It is also a distinctive centre; efficient but not overly corporate in identity; welcoming and quirky; responsive to the needs of the local community but promoting an individual and distinctive vision. In less than a year the Boo has attracted some of the best visual theatre companies in the UK and internationally.
Ticket prices are kept deliberately low to be affordable by as many people as possible.
Horse + Bamboo mentors new and emerging visual theatre companies such as 20 Stories High, Mishimou and No Nonsense Theatre. They have then all performed at the Boo as part of their national tours.
Horse + Bamboo's annual Puppet Festival is held every summer at the Boo and attracts families and puppetry enthusiasts from all over the North West and beyond.
