People who suffer from eating disorders often face harsh judgement and are stigmatised. People in and around Rochdaleneed to understand and acknowledge the fact that sufferers do not choose to be that way. Eating Disorders such as anorexia and bulemia are mental disorders that have physical symptoms and are not easily dismissed or brought about by the individuals will.

Twiddling my thumbs
I try to control the urge to eat
a voice reminds me of
Pizza in the fridge
I close my eyes tight
I hear a rumble within me
Shut up!
Grabbing fists full of hair
I pull
The pain
a distraction
but short lived.
I guzzle down a litre of water
So hungry

I'm in the kitchen
polishing off the final slice
O no, no, no, noo
I clutch at the flab,
scratching, tugging
I'm hunched over now
finger in mouth
and
a gush of release
mouth on sleeve
I sigh
It's okay, I'm fine.

A lot of people fight these battles daily, and being judged only makes things worse. People need to be aware and to understand. Only then can our communities, such as Rochdale, thrive.
