Rochdale Hornets are the town's professional rugby league club and are based at the prestigious location of the Spotland Stadium.
As Rochdale were one of the original twenty-two rugby club involved in the formation of the Northern Rugby Football Union in 1895, they are also one of the world's oldest rugby league clubs.
The Hornet's success and constant development, along with their part in the town's local history, have the made the team an important part of Rochdale's community.
The Hornets currently play in Championship One, which is contested by 10 teams and is organised by the Rugby Football League.

About Rochdale Hornets Rugby League
Rochdale Hornets was named in 1871 after a variety of teams from across the borough joined together to form a senior team to represent the team.
The team moved to their current location at Spotland Stadium (which is also home to Rochdale AFC) in the 1980's, when they also gained promotion the Second Division. The club's record for attendance was set on Boxing Day of 1989, when 8,150 people watched the team win against Oldham.
The team are now under the watchful eye of Head Coach John Stankevitch and Assistant Coach/ Conditioner Des Drummond.
