Last Sunday The Balderstone Club hosted the finals of the Balderstone Best Pub & Club Act Competition 2011-2012. A packed audience witnessed what can only be described as a showcase for local talent.
Four artists reached the finals, following heats and semi-finals which were held in 2011. Prize monies of £2000 were up for grabs and the club's brewers JW Lees sponsored half of the prize money for the event. Local bands Biscuit Face and Bright Sparks battled it out against Manchester band The Still and soloist Miss Linny Laine.
The day began at 2.00pm and the results announced at 7.30pm, overall the day went smoothly. Club Social secretary, Phil Hargreaves, said “If this event had of been held at the MEN, people would have paid £50 per head to come and watch, all the artists were fantastic.
Eventual winners were local band Bright Sparks, who just pipped The Still into second place. The club intends to run the next Talent Competition starting in July 2012, details and contacts can be found on the club website www.baldyclub.org .
