Saving the spoon-billed sandpiper talk - An illustrated talk by Rebecca Lee,
The incredible spoon-billed sandpiper, a small wader affectionately known as the spoony, is facing extinction perhaps faster than any other bird species, with probably fewer than 100 pairs remaining and the population in freefall.
Without urgent action, it will probably be gone within a decade.
The spoon-billed sandpiper has an adaptation, unique among its kind, of a spoon-shaped bill that it uses to sieve tiny animals from mudflats.
Join us for an illustrated talk by Rebecca Lee, Senior Species Conservation Officer based at Slimbridge, about WWTs conservation breeding mission to save the spoon-billed sandpiper.
From looking for nests on the Russian tundra to the birds' new permanent home at WWT Slimbridge.
The talk is free with admission to the Centre, no need to book.
