The Albert’s Deli in Worple Way, Richmond has won the Regional Final of Olive Et Al’s Deli of the Year 2012 helping to cement Richmond’s place on the foodie map of Britain.

Beating off fierce competition to become the regional finalist for London, the Albert’s Deli will now join nine other finalists from across the UK to see who will be judged the nation’s finest deli.

Hundreds of delis were nominated nationwide and thousands of votes cast by loyal customers with  only the top 10 delis making it through as Regional Winners. Now judges will visit each of the top 10 unannounced and incognito, with the winning deli announced in September at the Great Taste Awards gala dinner in London.

Bringing The Albert’s Deli to life has very much been a labour of love for co owners Cathy-Sue Hope and Janice Timothy who first came across the shop nearly four years ago in 2008 and fell in love with the area, the community and the beautiful Art Nouveau frontage.

Cathy- Sue Hope said “We are honoured and delighted to be declared regional winners in the Deli of the Year competition, we were highly commended by the judges in 2011 and to be in the final 10 this time round is fantastic. We are so lucky to have such wonderful customers who have supported us every step of the way and the relationships we have built with each and every one has contributed greatly to our success. Opening our doors in the midst of a recession certainly gave us pause for thought but we could see the potential and the community adopted us from the start. We are indebted to them and are hoping we can make them even more proud by winning the competition in September.”

Zac Goldsmith local MP for Richmond said “This is great news and well deserved. The fact that this business is thriving despite the hugely difficult times is testament to how hard the team has worked. Many congratulations to them all.”

The Albert’s Deli is planning to celebrate this win by holding a thank you evening for all the loyal customers who have voted for them. It will also be an opportunity for those who have not visited before to come and see what makes this deli the best in London.

The Deli of the Year  competition is organised and run by the Dorset based artisan food specialists, Olives Et Al, who carefully designed the competition in such a way that it allows every business that enters to showcase itself by engaging with staff, customers and their local community. As such, Olives Et Al has ensured this helps entrants to clarify and develop what they do for the benefit of long term business growth. In this way the Deli of the Year competition benefits every business that enters regardless of whether it scoops one of the main awards.
