Tide Table Cafe and Hollyhock Vegetarian Restaurant. Fairtrade Organic Cafes for customers in the borough of Richmond upon Thames.
Nestled in an arch beneath Richmond bridge, Tide Tables is cosy café with lots of charm. There are sofas on which to get comfy with a coffee, read the newspaper and check emails (there's free WiFi). On sunny days - and even on not-so-sunny days - locals are out in force the large garden, enjoying their coffee and watching the river Thames flow by.
The café's owner is passionate about the environment and animal welfare so many of the products are organic or Fairtrade. The food is all vegetarian, and there are even vegan and gluten free dishes, too. Choose from a selection that includes beautiful Popina tarts, vegetable lasagne, jacket potatoes, pies and vegetarian chilli with brown rice. There's a good range of hearty salads as well.
On the drinks front you'll find a really large range of herbal teas, fairtrade coffee, as well as freshly squeezed juices and smoothies. And of course, there's plenty of cakes and sweet things, too.Tide Tables is open until 8pm in the evenings and is licensed to sell beer and wine with food making a great alternative to the pub. Check the website for details of the live music nights, cinema screenings and other events that often take place there.

Take a short walk up the river towards Kingston and you'll come across Hollyhock.
This small but much loved café is set in a quaint little cottage with a veranda that overlooks the Thames from a vantage point half way up Richmond Hill.
It serves vegetarian food, although the menu is smaller than down in Tide Tables. You can still have a good lunch here, coffee, fresh juices and cakes. What's more, the kids will be happy with one of the lovely ice creams and running around the acres of grass that surrounds the café.
