Three Wings Trust is a charity that provides info and support for all children and young people who have special needs, and for their family and carers, across the Borough of Richmond.
Three Wings Trust is a registered charity that provides the central point of information and support for all children and young people from birth to 19 years who have permanent or temporary special needs, and for their parents, carers and siblings, across the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and surrounding boroughs.
Their goal is to ensure that all children and young people have equal opportunities to enjoy the same quality of life within an inclusive environment, having respect for the individual nature of each child and taking into account any permanent or temporary additional emotional, physical and/or health related needs that he or she may have.
There are over 2000 children with special needs in Richmond (approx 1 in 10 of all children) and for many the Three Wings Trust are their only source of support. This is the trust's 20th anniversary year and their goal is to raise £150,000 during the year.
Three Wings Trust name reflects the services they provide and their ethos.
Three - They focus on three areas of support to those with special needs:
- Technical support in the form of information and advice on the complete range of services available to parents and carers regarding educational, mental and physical needs.
- Social contact and emotional support through young person and sibling counselling, parent networks & leisure events.
- Provision of physical resources to help the young person in the form of toy library, IT software & hardware and second-hand equipment.
Wings - The support they provide helps all children and young people with special needs to 'fly' and achieve their full potential.
Trust - Mutual support for parents, the young with special needs and their siblings, and working together with other statutory and voluntary bodies to enable their goal to be realised.
