As one of the leading charities in the UK Teenage Cancer Trust is raising money to build a Teenage Cancer Unit in the South East which will be the first of its kind in the area and will support young people in Richmond, Surrey, Sussex and Kent.
Established in 1990, Teenage Cancer Trust is a national charity that is devoted to improving the lives of teenagers and young adults with cancer.
We understand how damaging it is to take a teenager away from their home, family, friends and everyday life and place them in a cancer ward amongst older people or young children.
Young people have very specific, specialist care needs and stand a much better chance in their fight against cancer if they are made to feel safe, comfortable and respected. That's why Teenage Cancer Trust works every day to ensure that teenagers are treated by teenage cancer experts in an environment that is tailored to their individual needs.
It is our aim that by 2012, every young person living with cancer in Great Britain has access to the specialist support our Teenage Cancer Trust units provide.
It's simple - teenagers shouldn't have to stop being teenagers because they have cancer.
South East Teenage Cancer Trust Unit
Our South East Unit is dedicated to caring and raising money for teenagers in Richmond, Surrey, Kent and Sussex.
We are currently raising money to build a state-of-the-art facility at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton, Surrey - a recognised centre of excellence. This new unit will care for young people and teenagers with cancer from across the three counties and is set to be one of the largest and most impressive units in the country.
It will have five individually designed en-suite bedrooms, a pair of four bed bays in funky, colour coordinated designs, patient kitchen, roof terrace and chill-out area, complete with TV, pool table and gaming area.
In order to keep up with school work, patients have access to a large school room with all the necessary facilities and full internet access.
It has been specially designed to make hospital stays bearable and comfortable for young people undergoing cancer treatment.
Families and friends also have access to a patients' lounge and kitchen, plus accommodation that ensures that the family unit can stay together during longer hospital stays.
Building has already started and is on schedule to be completed in the Summer of 2011. However, this new unit will cost over £3million, which has to be raised locally.

We have already seen great support from a variety of local individuals, families, community groups and businesses, who have organised or taken part in a number of creative fundraising activities, including:

- Sporting Events
We are also Brighton Marathon's National Charity for 2011, which has provided Teenage Cancer Trust with a great opportunity for many people in the South East to get involved.

Thank you for such an enjoyable event last night on the river cruise. The boat was perfect for networking whist watching the beautiful scenery go past. We have advertised using a few mediums, but the Best Of Richmond has proved a great way to give our business exposure and we will definitely continue to advertise with them next year.
Already I have had commissions! One person had googled âphotographers in Richmondâ and found me via thebestof and also one of the existing business members commissioned me to do a shoot for his wife of their 3 teenage boys for her 50th next month. He met me at The Petersham Hotel at the first thebestof meeting that I ever went to!!!!
My company is a huge fan of the Best Of Richmond. They have been a definite attribute to the business since we joined, it's one of the best decisions we have made. The seminars are informative, intelligent, worthwhile and more importantly fun! Personally, I have found that the general network evenings have been great, everyone is very welcoming and I have made some fantastic contacts to add to my network. If you're debating whether to join or attend an event, debate no longer, as Nike says, 'Just Do It' !
I just wanted to let you know it was a great event and venue on Tuesday. It was my first Networking with The Best of event and I thought it was run very well and I particularly liked the way it was broken up by you guys getting on the mics and I met loads of interesting people and made some very good contacts. I've been a member of Best of Richmond for some time and the quality and number of enquiries that we receive is exceptional but I had not ventured into attending a Best of Richmond networking event until recently. I must say I am so pleased that I did. The warm genuine greeting I received when I arrived at The Depot Waterfront Brasserie in Barnes from not only the Best of Richmond guys and girls but from other businesses was great, the free flowing wine, fruit juice and general niceness of everyone made me feel like I was chatting to new friends at a party rather than "working". I made 4 new contacts for our cleaning company and won the business card draw, so I'll get to go back to The Depot for a meal for free! Hampton Court Networking in March 2010. Nick what an amazing evening and tour of the Palace. As usual it was well attended.
Steve was very personable and the two hour session actually over ran by half an hour but everyone wanted to hear more which is always a good sign. He managed to relate to the audience very well and give real life examples which brought his case studies to life and engaged with the small audience very well. Very worthwhile session.
