Local hotels, restaurants, businesses and entertainment venues will be cheering on competitors from the banks of Richmond riverside in this weekend’s Great River Race, as more than 300 boats pass through the borough, watched by at least 20,000 rowing enthusiasts.

In a snub to the New Economics Foundation which claimed Richmond was a clone town, more than 20 borough-based firms and organisations will be promoting their services in the VisitRichmond zone on the riverside during the day.

Among the businesses on the day will be bestofrichmond members, The Bingham and Richmond Hill Hotel as well as The Tea Box, La Boulangerie, Original Maids of Honour, Austins, the Orange Tree Foundation, and Richmond New Medical Foundation. Only one large chain, Wagamamas will be included.

Of course thebestofrichmond will be there, with a BUY LOCAL stand promoting our campaign for people to support independent local shops and services.

As well as businesses, the Richmond Business and Retail Association, has organised a ‘Richmond on Sea’ children’s’ area and barbecue, which is to be led by another member of thebestofrichmond, A Cena. This will include a Punch and Judy show, donkey rides, a sandpit and performances by the Vineyard School choir. Chez Lindsay will also be cooking crepes during the day.
