When people take down their Christmas decorations they can use the Council’s free tree collection service to have it taken away and recycled and at the same time help to save public money.
The Christmas tree collection service for 2012 will run from Monday 9 – Saturday 21 January, with trees being taken away on the same day as the usual recycling collection dates. Every tree collected during those dates will be recycled and not sent to landfill, helping to keep the borough’s landfill costs down.
People who want a tree collected should strip off decorations stands or pots and leave the bare tree out on their usual collection day next to their recycling containers.
Last year around 20,000 trees were recycled and due to demand it is unlikely all trees will be collected at the same time. Residents whose trees are not taken away the first time they are put out should put them out again on the next collection day.
Residents can also drop off trees for recycling at the Townmead Road reuse and recycling centre, or at Wickes car park in South Road, Twickenham or Squires Garden Centre, in Sixth Cross Road, Twickenham.
