The end of 2011 is almost upon us and the beginning of a new year is just around the corner.
If you’re anything like me (a perpetual hoarder), the end of a year can also be the catalyst for a bit of a clear-out – something like a very early Spring Clean. Perhaps it’s the multitude of bright, shiny Christmas gifts – the massive toys for the kids that seemed like such a good idea at the time; the clothes specially bought for various Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties – but suddenly, those things that we no longer use but are loathe to throw away seem to spill out from under the bed and out of the drawers and refuse to go back in!
So what to do? Take perfectly good books, toys, DVDs etc to the tip? Surely not! After all, January is a month synonymous with economic abstinence – the repercussions of the festive season and a monthly salary that has to last for 5 weeks usually means that we all have to tighten our belts.
There is an alternative – the good old car boot sale! A place to sell those unwanted items and perhaps pick up a bargain along the way! And Retford, we are incredibly lucky to have the Oldcotes Car Boot Sale and Sunday Market literally on our doorstep – the largest car boot sale in North Nottinghamshire.
In addition to up to 600 sellers of new and second-hand goods, there is also a weekly market, with fruit & veg stands.
The market is open to sellers from 5:30am and the car boot sale finishes at 2:30pm.
Prices
Entrance fee for buyers: £1
Second hand seller pitch fee: £8
New goods seller pitch fees start from £12
There is plenty of parking on both hard-standing and grassed areas, which cost 50p before 7am and £1 after 7am.
Oldcotes Car Boot Sale and Sunday Market is held every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday throughout the year, apart from Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
