On Saturday I came across a fantastic pottery garlic grater at Couleurs du Sud stall on Retford market. I’ve never seen a pottery grater before, but it works wonders! I tested it out on Saturday night and it was so quick & easy to use (& quite therapeutic) and the garlic puree came out amazingly smooth. The washing up was a doddle! All my family are going to get one for Christmas!
Couleurs du Sud sell wonderful French Provencal pottery such as olive oil bottles, butter dishes, egg boxes, etc and, of course, garlic graters! They also sell gorgeous Provencal table linen with a fab array of items – such as table cloths, place mats, napkins, material, etc. They are on Retford market every Saturday, but if you can’t make it they also have a website where you can buy things from http://www.couleursdusud.com/
As it was also Retford Farmers Market I took the opportunity to visit Gringley Gringo stand to stock up with some chilli jelly and chilli piccalilli which I absolutely adore! plus some chilli sauce to pep up my cooking. I don’t like my chilli too hot, but there’s something for all tastes – they even make a chilli sauce using the hottest chilli pepper in the world! They are a local business too, so if you can’t make the Retford Farmers Market you can buy locally. For a welcome break from all that shopping, have you tried The Drawing Room Coffee Shop and Restaurant just above Stanley Hunt jewellers shop in the corner of the Market Square? You always get a warm welcome and great service and they do a fantastic English breakfast and delicious light meals (Martin is a brilliant chef) or if you’ve a sweet tooth there’s always a great selection of gorgeous homemade cakes. You can see more information about The Drawing Room in Retford here http://www.thebestof.co.uk/local/retford/business-guide/feature/the-drawing-room/74672
Finally, a mention for local delicatessens Deli & Dine, located near the Retford Market Square. Deli and Dine also now have a popular stall on the market every Saturday where you can buy their freshly made bread, olives, cheeses, quiche, etc. To get the full benefit of their range of yummy items just pop into their deli shop in Bridgegate, Retford.
You may have noticed that I love food! And now that Christmas isn’t far away its especially useful to know what’s on our doorstep. Can you recommend any great foodie places and goodies in the local Retford area?
