Inspired by London 2012, the Bassetlaw Games is a fantastic opportunity to get involved, get more active and participate in a variety of Olympics-inspired sports and events taking place in Retford and Bassetlaw over the next twelve months.
Founder of the modern Olympic Games, Pierre de Coubertin stated that “The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not winning but taking part; the essential thing in life is not conquering but fighting well.”
It is with this comment in mind that the Bassetlaw Games was created – a series of sporting activities, educational and cultural events that will be happening in the next year throughout the district.
Organisers are working with schools, sports clubs, organisations and communities in Retford and the surrounding region, aiming to get as many local residents – whatever age, ability or background – to participate in the many events taking place, including:
- Fencing at North Notts Arena
- Cycling at Clumber Park
- Clay shooting at Hayton Castle
- Hockey Coaching in Tuxford
- Cycling Festival at Thoresby
- Tae Kwondo competition by Lynx Black Belt Academy in Retford
- Gymnastics in Retford
